Emergency Services/Disaster Management
Graduate Certificate Program
The Graduate Certificate Program in Emergency Services/Disaster Management is designed for working professionals who are seeking to expand their knowledge in emergency planning, hazard mitigation and preparedness, disaster response and recovery, and homeland security. The goal is to create broad experience that includes the many elements of current cases in ES/DM and emphasizes both the critical thinking and leadership skills necessary to advance in the field. Applicants must have already attained at least a bachelors degree prior to being admitted to the program.
The ES/DM Graduate Certificate requires a capstone project and the following Distance Learning classes:
- Emergency / Disaster Planning
- Hazard Mitigation and Preparedness
- Disaster Response and Recovery
- Homeland Security and Emergency Management
All courses are taught utilizing a web based e-learning system. The courses are organized in weekly modules which include audio power point presentations, video lectures, assigned reading and on-line discussion forums. The material is designed to be completed in self paced / flexible format. Each course utilizes an electronic discussion board that provides an in depth interactive experience while at the same time offering individual flexibility to the working professional student.
Admission Requirements
It is required that applicants for admission for the ES/DM Graduate Certificate have the following:
- an undergraduate degree
- at least 2 years meaningful, supervisory and management related experience
- if you plan to continue on to obtain a Masters degree, a cumulative verbal and quantitative GRE score of 1000 or better
- a grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (preferred)
- TOEFL score of 565 or better for international students and
In addition, the student has to complete a UF non-degree application

Non-credit Options
Continuing Education Credits (CEU)
Courses taken under the non-credit option may be eligible to fulfill professional continuing education requirements.
Professional Development
This option should be pursued by individuals interested in becoming more knowledgeable about a specific topic in Emergency Services/Disaster Management, but who are not interested in earning college credit.
Tuition Cost
The tuition cost per 3-credit course is $1,800. Registration form - be sure to print and mail or fax the final form to the address specified in the registration form.
